PostHeaderIconFamily Reunions -- ours, theirs and global

According to Guinness World Records, the largest family reunion was held in Saint-Paul-Mont-Pénit, Vendée, France on August 12, 2012. There were 4,514 in attendance. I suspect the Shaver Reunion of 1937 is one of our largest gatherings. The photograph of the event, taken June 19, 1937 has 211 faces. Our newsletter called it a "monster" reunion.

We should be able to find 45 hundred Shaver family descendants--not that we would have a venue large enough to hold such an event.

Reunions are held all over the world and each of us could attend numerous events as we are members of numerous families.

A. J. Jacobs, an author and journalist, is try to convince us that we are related to him, and he is inviting us to his "Global Family Reunion". I'm going to guess that unless he documents the lineage of all attendees to him his event may not qualify for the World Record--not that he is trying to set any records.

When I first read about the event I had this feeling of "how stupid" and "how brilliant" at the same time. This event, planned to be held in Queens, New York is to help cure Alzheimer's Disease.

A few weeks ago I signed up to receive newsletter updates on the event--I have received nothing yet.

In regards, to our reunion, the next reunion is scheduled for 2015. There is no reunion this year. The decision to optionally hold reunions every other year was made as a cost saving measure a few years ago.

No official date in 2015 has been set. However, it just might be on the same date as the Global Family Reunion--June 6, 2015.
