James Wellington Shaver actually died September 15, 1884. He is my great grandfather. Family lore states that he drowned in Lake Huron after diving off a pier or dock in order to retrieve his hat which had blown off during inclement weather. He is buried in Tawas Michigan in St. Joseph cemetarty, which is now part of the municipal cemetery. He was 33 years, 2 months and 10 days old per his original grave marker.
