Peter Bowman was one of the first pioneers to settle and petition land in the Ancaster area as an United Empire Loyalist. He had served in Butler's Rangers from 1777 to 1783.
Jonathan named one of his sons in 1795 after Peter Bowman, who gratefully responded by giving this son the north 60 acres in lot 51 con. 3 Ancaster Township in 1822.
